Email address directories can be very helpful for finding the online contact information of different people in your life.  This can be a great way to reach friends and family members whose email addresses you don’t have.  It is also useful when you haven’t had contact with people in a while, and you’re not sure where they live anymore.  Therefore, this makes reaching them by telephone or mail very challenging.  However, no matter where they live, they can maintain the same email address and they may still be reachable through email address directories.

Email directories, also known as email search engines, provide a good solution for finding email address online when an initial search engine search doesn’t work, since the individual you’re looking for doesn’t have a website, blog, or employer page with a contact listing.

There are many email directories available online.  In fact, some of the largest search engines provide email directories as well.  These include Yahoo!, Infospace, Bigfoot, and People.  These are very simple resources that don’t require users to register their own information to perform a search. 

When searching for emails online, it is useful to try more than one email directory, as different email directories will contain emails from different lists.  The reason for the limitation of these directories is that in most of the legitimate ones, people must actively register in order to be included on the list.  Therefore, if a certain individual didn’t happen to register to the list you are using, then you will not be successful – you need to find out where that person may have registered.  Of course, things do get a bit more complicated when people register for their email addresses using fictitious names – in which case you would not be able to find them using their real one.
